Take me to the River September 23Over 50 events along 50 miles over one weekend—September 23rd - September 26. Plus, when the tents come down at days end, there will be “artful” entertainment each evening to keep people at the river for as long as they’d like to stay.
Here’s a taste of what’s happening:
Thursday, Sept. 23

-Take Me to the River closing ceremonies. Paddleboat cruise aboard the Taylors Falls Princess
(Check the ArtReach St. Croix website www.artreachstcriox.org for times, locations, and other information about Take Me to the River events.)
Take Me to the River offers a unique weekend menu. The combination of daytime arts festivals with evening storytelling combines to create a “fine arts meets fringe fest” flavor. On its website, ArtReach St. Croix will also be offering maps of suggested rivertown tours by motorcycle, car, bicycle, and boat.
Powered by ArtReach
ArtReach St. Croix, a non-profit arts organization, has been the catalyst for this effort. There have been meetings in St. Croix Falls, Stillwater, Hudson and Hastings. The short-term objective of Take Me to the River has been to create a distinctive event that creates a bigger pie for everyone, including restaurants and lodging within the various river city communities.
However, ArtReach and its partners are going for bigger fish. Longer-term, the goal of connecting the arts in the St. Croix Valley is to create an arts district encompassing both sides of the river, a district that will become a nationally recognized center for the arts. ArtReach believes the talent is here and this festival is one way to showcase it.
Working together on Take Me to the River has had unanticipated benefits. “The level of collaboration has been inspiring,” says Danette Olsen, executive director of St. Croix Festival Theatre in St. Croix Falls, WI. “This is a fantastic opportunity for arts organizations to be better aware of each other and their programs. It’s what cultural sustainability and community building through the arts is all about. We grow stronger together.”
Every Fall the St. Croix Valley offers stunning foliage, migrating birds, and unique shops. This year, over the September 23rd – 26th weekend, why not add a unique concert or storytelling event to your St. Croix Valley experience? ArtReach and its partners want visitors to discover a different beat at every bend in the river. Website: www.artreachstcriox.org | 24 Comedy Dinner Cruise
